Alan D. Barson

Alan D. Barson is an experienced entertainment industry executive and attorney and a former C-level executive in the sustainable energy and LED industries. Alan is skilled in negotiation, management, international business development, technology and licensing, brand management, and marketing strategy. He received Juris Doctor degree from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University, New York City with studies focused on intellectual property, commercial and entertainment law.
Alan is a growth facilitator who goes beyond the usual and expected to make creative and innovative deals. His 30 years of legal experience and extensive involvement in the business world, sprinkled with a healthy dose of entrepreneurial DNA are at the foundation of his ability to develop intelligent solutions for each client’s unique situation. His practice is focused on music, film, television, media, licensing, technology, finance, blockchain and cryptocurrencies, copyright, trademark, commercial and international business transactions.
Earlier, Alan was an attorney with the entertainment boutique Leibowitz Roberts & Ritholz representing multiplatinum artists, film studios, major & independent labels, music publishers, cable networks and live concert venues. He was an Adjunct Professor of Law at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City for the popular “Entertainment Lawyering” seminar, fulfilling a passion for inspiring the next generation of practitioners.
Alan previously served as Senior Vice President/Head of Business & Legal Affairs and General Counsel for London/Sire Records Group, then a Warner Music Group label, where he reported to the legendary music industry mogul Seymour Stein. Alan’s responsibilities included building an in-house business & legal affairs department in service of Sire’s New York, Los Angeles & London based operations in recording, distribution, and music publishing. Before joining Sire, Alan was an attorney with the preeminent New York entertainment and media law firm Franklin Weinrib Rudell & Vassallo where he represented public media conglomerates, private companies, major recording artists, senior executives and creative talent engaged in recording, motion pictures, television, theater, music publishing, book publishing, media, and technology.
Earlier in his career, Alan spent a decade as a creative in the London music industry including as a recording engineer, producer, remixer, artist manager and software developer for first-gen computer musical instruments, and worked with legendary artists 10cc, The Cure, John Foxx/Ultravox, Moody Blues and Ozzy Osbourne, among many others.
Alan is a longstanding and active member of the New York State Bar Association and former Chair of the Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Section and a member of the Executive Committee. In 2010, Alan was elected as Fellow of the New York Bar Foundation of the New York State Bar Association. Fellowship is a professional honor. Fellows are nominated by peers and are recognized for distinguished achievement, dedication to the legal profession, commitment to the organized bar and service to the public.
Alan is licensed to practice law in New York and Connecticut. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
